Background quilting has always been admired for its visual appeal, but did you know it also serves a purpose in minimizing the frustrating issue of puckering that can occur when using fill stitch designs.   

While there are steps, we take as digitisers to reduce the effects of the push and pull of the embroidery stitches, you cannot always ignore the pure physics of ‘filling’ a piece of fabric with a large number of embroidery stitches.

Using the correct stabilizer and employing correct hooping methods to ensure there is no movement within your embroidery hoop, is the most important step in reducing puckering.

Another tool if you are making a Quilt, is to add a thin layer of batting between your stabiliser and fabric and stitch a background quilting design.  You can make an In the hoop Block!!

We use hoop size descriptions in line with usual industry terms.  If you are unsure if your hoop is big enough for a design, please check the size in mm, or click here for a list of common Embroidery Hoop Sizes

Please note that our 6x10 designs utilize the full embroidery field, which may not fit within the Oval Bernina hoop. If this is the case, you may need to use a larger Bernina hoop or opt for the 5x7 designs instead.
